I purchased my home one year ago. countrywide is the lender, the home was appraised at 208K just 12 months ago ( I live in Florida)..since then, I lost my fiancee who was to be paying half of the $1600/month mortgage...luckily i still have my job..but the "no overtime policy" has been implemented. Honestly..I have gone thru almost all of my savings to keep the home..and now the home is worth maybe $120K. I am still current...but I contacted Countrywide and told them that I will not be making any more payments...they suggested the H4H program for me..but said I can't call back for another 3 weeks. I am not the type of person to do something like this..but I have no choice..I am going to stop paying on a house that has declined in equity 80K in the last year..because i see no reason to do it...I talk to people all of the time down here and literally you can stop paying your mortage..live in the house for about a year until you are finally kicked out...but i have to believe that in the meantime countrywide will settle with me and let me have the house for what the house is worth? can anyone advise me better....thank you.

WOW SBL, you felt the need to wipe out my previous comments on this thread to post your own.... nice way to operate a forum!

Good Job SBL!

Do realize that I was the person you failed to call back for an interview....it's about helping people NOT about being selfish!

You were obviously too busy to help everyone or this wouldn't have sat here for 2 weeks before you did something about it!
